March 25, 2020: Ordinary Days

My daily devotion with an encouraging thought for your day.

2 Corinthians 6:1-10 says, " As God's co-workers we urge you not to receive God's grace in vain. For he says, "In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you". I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation. We put no stumbling block in anyone's path, so that our ministry will be discredited. Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses; in beatings, imprisonments and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger; in purity, understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love; in truthful speech and in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left; through glory and dishonor, bad report and good report; genuine, yet regarded as impostors; known, yet regarded as unknown; dying, and yet we live on; beaten, and yet not killed; sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything".

Verses to highlight:

  • v. 1-2; "As God's co-workers we urge you not to receive God's grace in vain. For he says, "In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you". I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day of salvation".

God hears us. He hears our prayers. He hears our cries. He hears our pleas for help. He will protect us. He doesn't always grant us the desires and wishes of our hearts right away. Sometimes, it isn't time for us to know His great plan for us. But, in His timing, He will grant us the desires of our heart. Sometimes days will feel ordinary, but it's in the ordinary where we can discover God.

In times like this, of the coronavirus chaos going on in the world, I think we forget that the mundane activities of life are important. Living in the here and now is important. I think the reason so many people are restless is because we're used to the business of always having a schedule.

“The thing that tells in the long run for God and for men is the steady persevering work in the unseen, and the only way to keep the life uncrushed is to live looking for God". - Oswald Chambers

This quote and these verses above are so fitting for the world we're living in today. I've noticed many people complaining about not having their routine anymore. The routine we live in usually involves work, sleep, eat, extracurricular activities, etc. I want to encourage all of you to get into a new routine during this time. Find a hobby. Learn something new about your spouse or significant other. Do something you've always wanted to do, but have never had the courage to do (like start a big blog and instagram page encouraging women through faith). Dig into a new devotional or book. Start working out. Take this time to live in the moment and day-by-day.

Our routines are important, but we have an amazing opportunity set forth in front of us. We can take advantage of this isolating and sometimes lonely time to dig deeper into our relationships with our families, friends, but most importantly, the Lord. The mundane things of life are important. They remind us to slow down and enjoy the beautiful moments of life that we often miss out on.

A few reminders for you today:

  • Everyday life is valuable

  • Live today to the fullest for the Lord, because it's such an important, ordinary day!

My prayer for today is short and sweet:

Abba, help me make every moment county for you! Help me live everyday to the fullest through you. Amen.
